This article reflects on the technicist education and its presence in the Law no. 5692/71, which influenced the school curricula, especially the Physical Education. This law basic interest was to increase the productive efficiency in the labor world, considering the importance of school education to achieve the goals of government-sponsored education, whose basic principles for Physical Education were discipline and high performance. The general objective of this research is to investigate the performance of Physical Education during the military dictatorship influenced by the technicist education that guides Law 5692/71, and how the discipline and its pedagogical conceptions were configured in the technicist context. Based on the historical-documentary research method, the documentary sources and Brazilian educational legislations of the period are described. According to Silva (2009), this method of investigating reality can be used in both positivist and comprehensive approaches with a critical focus. From this perspective, the authors Castellani Filho (2010), Saviani (2000; 2007) and Horta (2011) emphasize the resistance of teachers at the time, who were protagonists in the democratic transition, because social evolution and education contributed to the common goal of national development that enabled the individual human project.
